Mission

The Institute for the Science of Origins initiates and conducts scientific research on, educates students about and increases public understanding of the origin and evolution of systems, simple and complex, natural and human, and the applications of that knowledge.

Vision

The Institute for the Science of Origins will be a pre-eminent multi-disciplinary institution conducting scientific research into the origin and evolution of systems, simple and complex, natural and human — from the beginning of the universe to the evolution of life in all its variety and the emergence of the many components of human culture, from the most distant past to the present and into the future — and seeking the application of that knowledge to address human needs and challenges.

The Institute, and the scientist-educators who comprise it, will develop, teach and oversee courses and degree programs across its broad range of scientific inquiry that attract and serve undergraduates and graduate students from around the world.

The Institute will be a shaper and influencer of public understanding locally, nationally and internationally, increasing public knowledge and appreciation of science broadly and in particular of the science pertaining to the origin and evolution of natural and human systems.
